Coolest Beach Destination in Mexico

Playa del Carmen is also known just “Playa”, is the center of the Riviera Maya concept, which covers from Cancún to Tulum and the Sian Ka'an biosphere reserve. All tourist activity in Playa del Carmen centres on the Quinta Avenida, or Fifth Avenue, is a pedestrian walkway located just one block inland from the beach, with boutique hotels, shops, bars and restaurants.

Playa is blessed with miles of unspoiled white sandy beaches and crystal-clear Caribbean waters that's proving harder and harder to find  Playa del Carmen is quite a 'young' resort  in that it attracts a lot of people in the twenty to thirty-something age range. Playa has amazing beaches, great accommodations and the ferry to Cozumel which runs numerous trips daily.Playa del Carmen is only 45 minutes from Tulum ruins, or Cancun.

A typical day in Playa can be spent relaxing under an umbrella propped along the breathtaking beaches sipping a margarita. The azure sea is the perfect temperature for a swim, and the ocean breeze is steady enough to keep you cool. Seaside bars and restaurants are located all along the white sand beaches. There is a significant European influence in Playa, It is not unusual to find that the proprietors of a particular hotel, restaurant, or bar are expatriates from Europe.

Scuba diving and snorkeling is plentiful, though the reefs are off the shore and require a boat to get to. All hotels have a dive shop, though some can be found in the city itself. Better open-water scuba diving can generally be found in Cozumel via the ferry. Better snorkeling is located at Puerto Morelos, located between Playa del Carmen and Cancun, and in the lagoon at Akumal, on the way to Tulum. Several dive shops in Playa del Carmen do offer cavern diving about an hour inland.
